Re: SAA to close West Seattle classroom on Feb 10, 2017

Dear SAA Community,

We wanted to update you on some important news from Seattle App Academy. We recently made the decision to move SAA in another direction at the end of this session. Therefore, we will end program delivery in West Seattle effective February 10, 2017.

Seattle App Academy opened it’s doors at Jefferson Square in September 2014 with the mission to “inspire tomorrow’s technology creators.” Since then, we have provided learning experiences for hundreds of West Seattle students in multiple subjects including Programming, Electronics, and Design. We have established educational partnerships with Kennedy Catholic High School, to offer two credit-bearing Computer Science classes, and Girl Scouts of Western Washington, to empower girls through skills-based technology workshops.

Our students have twice participated in the FLL Robotics Challenge and, last year, earned the Best Presentation at the Regional Qualifier event at Ballard High School. During our annual Hacker Cup Competition, students have demonstrated their game creations for a panel of local tech professionals including representatives from Microsoft Research FUSE Labs, the makers of Kodu. We are proud of our accomplishments and it is now time for us to fulfill our mission in a new way.

A special thank you to all our students and families -- especially those that have been with us since the beginning. It has been a great experience learning and growing together. To our students, please remember, as long as there are technical challenges in the world, there will be a need for “technology creators” to solve those problems. The future is very bright and we wish you well on your journey forward!

All the best,

Seattle App Academy Staff
